Essentials for Your Wedding Flat Lay

Everyone loves a good flat lay!!! Here a few tips to help your photographer get a few detail photos you will love.

The Guide

I typically begin the day with your flat lay details, so these items will be among the first I photograph and will be returned to you shortly after. I recommend setting them aside in advance—ideally gathered in a single box or curated space—to ensure a seamless and efficient start to your day.

Once I’ve finished capturing these images, everything will be carefully returned to you. If needed, your coordinator, maid of honor, or I will ensure each item is placed back exactly where it belongs.

I will also arrive with a thoughtfully curated styling kit, including a ring box, jewelry tray, and ribbon to elevate your detail images. If you have specific preferences or would like to incorporate pieces that feel more personal to you, you’re more than welcome to bring your own. I’m also happy to share photos of my styling pieces ahead of time so everything feels perfectly aligned with your vision.

Things to Bring:

Here a few items to keep in mind and provide for your wedding photographer!

  • 2-3 copies of your wedding invitation or invitation suite

  • Your save the date

  • An envelope

  • Wedding shoes (bride and groom)

  • Wedding jewelry (earrings, necklace)

  • Your something old, new, borrowed, and blue

  • Perfume and/or cologne bottle

  • Lipstick any other makeup

  • Your vows/vow books

  • Letters or gifts for one another

  • Ring boxes & wedding rings

  • Groom's cufflinks and/or boutonnière

  • Special items you’re using during your ceremony

  • Custom wedding hanger

  • Heirloom items

  • Bouquet and any additional flowers (There are usually a few leftovers from the florist so feel free to ask if you can have any! Having a few flowers for the flat lay is always beautiful and adds a pop!)

Don’t feel overwhelmed by this list—simply select the details that feel most meaningful to you. A refined, intentional approach always photographs beautifully, and often, less truly is more. For additional inspiration, please see the examples below.

In addition to styled flat lays, I will also capture “lived-in” detail shots of pieces like your shoes and jewelry. These images feel more natural and personal—often photographed as they’re being worn or just after. To achieve this, I recommend having your shoes, jewelry, and accessories easily accessible during getting ready so I can document them organically as you slip them on or as they rest nearby in the moment.
